Also near is the historic naval town of Dartmouth with it's river trips, fascinating castle and historic buildings, restaurants, shops and town garden. Historic Totnes has wonderfully quirky shops and caters for everyone whether you require fresh flowers, antiques, hand made shoes or designer clothes. The wonders of Dartmoor with it's wonderful walks, river valleys, dramatic tors and fine views is also under 30 minutes away. There are footpaths in all directions including the pretty Avon valley river-walk and along parts of the old Kingsbridge branch line railway. The lanes are awash with wild flowers in the Spring and Summer, and Autumn brings brilliant golds, bronzes and reds as the countryside prepares for Winter.

There are delightful pubs and village inns offering high quality food, local farmer markets selling seasonal produce and small independent stores in all the towns offering high quality food and service. If you enjoy the big city, Plymouth is only 40 minutes by car with it's restaurants, theatres and New Drakes Circus shopping centre. The South Hams offers an all year round mild climate with a plentiful supply of places to visit and things to do whatever the season.
